Fundraising

Ethical Fundraising

African Initiatives is funded by a variety of trusts, institutions and public donations, small and big. We have an ethical fundraising policy which reflects many of the organisations’ core principles and beliefs.

African Initiatives does not accept money from organisations that profit from the exploitation or destruction of African people, their livelihoods or their environment. We also do not accept money from any organisation that is the focus of international campaigns to change their practices in regard to Africa.

Integrity

African Initiatives only use messages that reflect the dignity, energy and struggle of African communities. We establish the principles of our activities based on our partners’ needs and independently of any funding opportunities.

Generosity

In addition to applying for grants from trusts and institutions we use public events, media opportunities and word of mouth to encourage donations from the public and to raise awareness of our work with communities in Africa. We do not use intrusive, impersonal, wasteful mail shots or miss use mailing lists.

Accountability

By regularly monitoring and evaluating our work we know that our projects are working. We also ensure that we provide regular honest information about our work to funders and show all supporters the difference that they are making through our newsletter, The Talking Stick.
