About UsWho is African Initiatives?African Initiatives is a social justice organisation working with communities in Africa. Together we build self-sufficiency and confidence and empower people to fully participate in the decisions that affect their lives. Strengthening Communities in AfricaAfrican Initiatives supports communities to find their own long term solutions to the problems they face. As well as providing advice, training and resources, we also work with them to make their voices heard, stand up against corruption and lift themselves out of poverty. In Africa, small organisations are often more effective than large ones because we are able to build long-term and trusting relationships with local people. Together we develop knowledge and skills, improve community life and fight for people’s rights. We know our projects are working because we work closely with these communities and regularly monitor all our activities. Awareness raising in the UKTo support our work in Africa, African Initiatives also promotes a better understanding of Africa in the UK. We support positive policies and activities that reduce poverty and improve people’s lives. Our Global Resource Centre in Bristol provides up-to-date information, resources and activities for the public, media, schools and youth groups. Interested in Volunteering? We are always glad to hear from potential new volunteers and because we are a small organisation we can offer volunteers an opportunity to learn and contribute to the many different areas within this sector.
